The new water cooling tower at the municipal power plant is much more efficient than the old one that was in use for many years. It is a “radiator” for the four big engines at the plant, cooling the water that cools the engine mechanism.

Teenage hospital volunteers known as Candy Stripers were presented with their nationally-recognized pink and white striped uniforms last Friday at St. Luke Hospital.

Sister Juliana, director of nursing service at St. Luke, is in charge of the Candy Stripers.

Marion Bakery is open under new management, actually not “new” in that Dave Greenemeyer, who owned and operated the bakery for over 40 years, is now in charge again. Mr. Greenemeyer states that he will operate the bakery “just like always.”

The Tampa and Hillsboro men’s bowling team won second place in the State Bowling Proprietor’s Association and the right to enter the national tournament in August at Rapid City. S.D. Team members are Lloyd Mueller, Wilbert Backhus, Lee Unruh, Ray Cornelsen, and Wes Pankratz.

Alex Mehlinger, manager of Seymour Foods plant in Marion reports that after August 1st they will discontinue all other types of business here and concentrate only on egg buying.

The company egg trucks, operated by Gene Knoblock, Henry Sklenar, and Henry Klose, will continue but the office and retail store will close after the first of the month.
