Marion County voters joined others over the state in criss-crossing party lines in record numbers as they marked their ballots in Tuesday’s “off-year” election.

An unusually fine program, including the K-State singers and charcoal broiled steaks, has been planned for the annual Farm-City Banquet to be held here Nov. 21. It is a popular stag affair, sponsored by the Marion Chamber of Commerce and other businessmen.

A good-sized audience attended the Marion Jaycees’ second annual “Amateur Night” Wednesday in the Marion city auditorium.

Top winners in the pre-high school division were Sharon and Joni Kroupa, Jim Richmond, Janet Lawrence, and Kathleen Smith. High school winners were Beverly Hoch, Anita Hett, Helen Jackson, and Bryce Ollenberger.

The winners in each classification will go to Wichita for the experience of appearing on television

Donald Ewert of Durham missed $100 in Wednesday’s Cash Days drawing. J. D. Loewen, Hillsboro, received $10; Richard Rittel, Marion, missed $5; Lydia Sommers, Marion, missed $10; and Chas. Holub, Marion, missed $10.

“The People vs. Maxine Lowe,” a spectacular courtroom drama, has been selected by director Marlyn Friesen as the Marion High School senior class play. Lead parts will be portrayed by Linda Loney, Pat Costello, Norman Mueller, and Patti Plenert.

Marion business and home owners are again to be given a liberal discount of their electric rates during the Christmas season. The discount amounts to 80% off of the increase noted over the previous month billing.

James William Miesse Post of the American Legion is planning a big celebration for Veterans Day in Marion with the traditional post carnival. This is the 34th annual carnival. All types of games will be available and home cooked meals available all day long, starting at 11 a.m.
