Last Thursday afternoon the Florence Methodist church was completely gutted by fire that for a time threatened the entire neighborhood.
The end of an era in American military life was marked this week by the closed bid sale of the last of the famous cavalry horses at Ft. Riley.
The names of three more Marion County children taken ill and diagnosed as polio victims were registered with the county health office this week. They are Rosemary Holub, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lou Holub, Tampa, Laurel Vinduska, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vinduska, Pilsen, and Gerald Spohn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonah Spohn, Tampa.
Fred Lee and Sons, furniture and appliance firm in Herington is opening a Marion store in the near future. The store will be located in the C.W. Wheeler building across from the post office.
The scouts shipped about 4½ tons of waste paper last week, which netted them about $30.
