The city commissioner named a special marshal this week to assist in eliminating speeding, reckless driving and other traffic infringements. Seven arrests have been made in three days. The appointment is temporary. The commission will try it for 30 days with the hope of making it a permanent addition to the city’s service if it is evident of an increase safety results.
Jerry Seifert and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Seifert, entertained several boys at an overnight party and breakfast following the football game Friday night. Boys present were Keith Hyde, Edward Davies, Robert Meisinger, Donald Winters, Bruce Wingerd, Dick Hoch and David Montgomery.
The north end of Elm Street is a busy place these days. August Hett is pouring cement for the massive basement of the new home he is building just north of Mrs. Clara McKay’s property. Work also has begun on the house for Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Shull east of Fred Hayen’s.
In an impressive double ring ceremony October 1 at the Methodist church, Miss LaVerna Knight and Jack Beaston were united in marriage. After a short honeymoon, the couple will reside in Marion.
Pupils of the Loveless school at Grapes had a turtle race Wednesday afternoon. There were three turtles in the race. Tootles, Gerry Herzet’s turtle won first, Creep-a-long belonging to Jon Soyez was second, and Billy, Roma Collett’s turtle, won third.
