According to latest reports, the fate of Father Emil Kapaun, U.S. Army chaplain, remains uncertain. He was reported missing in action, then on Dec. 3 a telegram stated he was a prisoner of war but alive and well. No further word has been heard.

The new American Legion building will start construction immediately after Christmas. The new structure is at the location now occupied by Marion Recreation Parlor and the Marion Electric Shop.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert DeCatsye have sold their Horner Hotel Café in Florence and plan to open a new eating-place in Marion in the near future. They gave rented the David Wheeler building west of the post office.

Charles F. Brooker, undoubtedly Marion County’s oldest living pioneer, will celebrate his 97th birthday Dec. 23 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Brooker, in Wichita.

The telephone operators of Marion’s Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. enjoyed a Christmas dinner at Coons’ Restaurant Tuesday evening. They retired to the company lounge afterward for a gift exchange. The party included Lillie Keazer, Marie Dixon, Winifred Meierhoff, Neva Fruechting, Dolores Hobson, Naomi Volkland, Elma Helmer, Catherine Heerey, Marjorie Bledsoe, Agnes Kurtz, Lucy Janzen, Inez Schambron, Peggy Hett, and Dorothy Melcher.
