The Marion community was saddened this week at news of the passing of one of its most widely known and well-liked businessmen, Emory Hawbecker. He was 52 years of age. This jovial and admired man operated the “Cubby Hole,” popular Marion eating place for more than 28½ years. He will be greatly missed.
Linda Christine Loney, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Loney Jr. of Herington, is improving following a concussion received when she fell at her home two weeks ago.
Mrs. Henry Klose received a painful injury Tuesday when she broke a needle off in her finger while quilting. The needle was satisfactorily removed.
Class officers have been named at Marion High School, a list of which follows. The president is named first, followed by vice president, and secretary-treasurer. Senior class—Bob Kline, Isla May Hiebert, Marjory Collett. Junior class—Dennis Richards, Billy McKibben, Mary Ann Skibbe. Sophomore class—Duane Fruechting, Dwight Fruechting, Anita Collett. Freshman class—Glenda Razor, Jimmy Smith, Pat Kruse.
Six Marion women left today with a group of other women on a 10-day tour to the east sponsored by the Home Bureau, a division of Farm Bureau. Those going were Mrs. Clive Jarvis, Mrs. C.B. Wheeler, Mrs. Earl Linn, Mrs. Irvin Gerstenkorn, Mrs. George McCulloch, and Mrs. E. Aldinger.
