Fifty-one years later, only three men represent the entire roster of living Spanish-American War vets in Marion County who saw service in the Philippine Islands just before the turn of the century. The men are Harry Embree of Peabody and W.S. McKibbin and Charley Ehrlich of Marion.

The attractive farm home of Mr. and Mrs. George Thye, east of Marion, was completely destroyed by a fire last Friday afternoon that originated with a leaky kerosene stove.

The congregation of the Marion Presbyterian Church has contracted for a new Baldwin electronic organ that they hope to have installed before the holiday season.

St. John Nep. Church in Pilsen was the scene of the wedding of Sarah Jane Fortmeyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Fortmeyer, and Louis C. Stika, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Stika, October 17 at 9 o’clock in the morning.

Marion’s fire chief Fred Knackstedt and Clarence Baxter were in Hutchinson Tuesday to attend a fireman’s convention.

Members of 20th Century Club entertained members of the Sub Deb Club Monday evening, Hostesses Mrs. Floyd Yaussi, Mrs. Lloyd Tarrant and Mrs. Paul Herpich, started the evening’s fun that included a cleverly planned trail that ended at Dogfish Island. Here the hostesses had a campfire blazing and the group enjoyed a wiener roast.
