The city commission has a plan in the offing to do away with two almost historical landmarks, the “Rogers” bridge and the “Jex Addition” bridge over the old Cottonwood River channel.
A recent improvement in the city’s affairs, much appreciated by most residents, is the two-man marshal’s force put into operation on a 24-hour-a-day basis. And, the new uniforms and insignia add their part to the general impression and effectiveness.
Miss Ruth Dunn was pleasantly surprised on her birthday when the girls of the senior class planned a buffet supper in her honor at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Dunn. Those there included Isla Mae Hiebert, Marjie Collett, Carol Oblander, Roberta Newsom, Phyllis Magathan, Janice Meisner, Patsy Rittel, Georgia Tajchman, Dorothy Markham, Doris Meredith, Ethel Grimes, Laura J. Bredemeier, Jeanine Brose, Cora McCarty, Ursula Neuwirth, and Ethel Hiebert.
Work is proceeding at the Hill Grade School in preparation to starting a hot lunch program in the Marion city schools.
In a Grand Opening sale announced this week, Buckley’s Grocery has affiliated itself with the grocery marketing organization known as HGF Food Stores. This is a division of the Lee Mercantile Company, a well-known food wholesale firm for many years.
