Edward J. Costello, local attorney, was elected commander of the Marion County Veterans of Foreign Wars post at Marion Tuesday evening. Other officers elected are Vernon Regier, Bill Meyer, Robert Brooks, Edwin Westerhaus, Leonard Spachek, Charles R. Magee, Robert Bailey, Ray Vinduska, and Stanley Anderson.
An unusually beautiful and timely Easter decoration is the large lighted cross on top of the home of Misses Sadie and Ruth Keller. At Christmas time, they had a large lighted star in the same place. The Keller house is especially suited for such a decoration with its interesting tower from which you can view across town and the Cottonwood valley.
The picture projection equipment, the entire second floor, and much of the roof of the Avon Theatre and building in Hillsboro were destroyed by a fire of unknown origin Tuesday morning.
Jerry Dieter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Dieter, who broke his arm while playing, is recovering satisfactorily.
Happy Hustlers 4-H Club’s play, “Elmer,” placed in the blue ribbon class Saturday at the Spring Festival. This entitles them to go to the sub-district festival in Marion April 7. The cast of characters included Max Hayen, Vera Mae Remmers, Joyce Schmidt, Viola Dody, Donnie Schmidt, Margaret Dody, LaDonna Funk, Ronald Hiebert, and Glenda Razor who took Georgene Tajchman’s part only the night before when Georgene came down with the chicken pox.
