The day for which many Marionites and others around about have worked and waited five, six, seven years, arrived last week and went on its way without fanfare. The big bucket on the end of the boom of a diesel-powered shovel took a full bite of black dirt, and the actual construction of the Marion Community Hospital was underway.

MHS boys chosen this year by the local Legion post and Marion Kiwanis Club to attend Boys’ State in Wichita are juniors Eugene Christensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Christensen, and John Newcomer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Newcomer. Alternates chosen were Herbert Quiring and Billy McKibbin.

Announcement was made today by Max Blackwelder, manager of Marion Motors and Machinery, Inc., that they have been appointed GMC truck dealers for the Marion territory. The agency is also the local dealer of Oldsmobile and Massey-Harris.

Mrs. Allen Kimble has purchased the rental property from Jay E. Hargett, previously occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Ira Turner. She will have it remodeled and completely renovated before she moves there.

Mrs. Leonard Lentz is permanently employed at the law office of John E. Wheeler. The former employee, Miss Violet Krispense, is working for Case & Son replacing Mrs. Melvin Koegeboehn, formerly Miss Elizabeth Ford, who with her husband has moved to a farm near the Elk-Union school.

Mary Margaret Hannaford, daughter of Mrs. Norma Hannaford, and Claire Hyde, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Preston Hyde, will attend Girls’ State at Lawrence June 10 to 17.
