The Bicycle Safety Club, organized several weeks ago for the benefit of the community’s young “two wheelers” by Marshal Dale Sisson, has caught the fancy and gained support of large number of boys and girls. Eighty members have been enrolled to date.
Amateur radio operators of this county will take part Sunday in a National Field Day. Stations licensed in the county at present are owned by Mac Kreuter, Harry Harris, Dick Jantz, Jay Pavey and Bill Griggs of Marion; Don Larsen in Peabody; John Moore in Hillsboro; Henry Bergen and Wilbur Ratzlaff, Goessel; and Charles Graham, Florence.
A party was held by the post office force last week honoring Sadie Keller, who is retiring after completing 30 years of service at the Marion post office.
The land, buildings and equipment of School District No. 108 (Quarry) will be sold at public auction June 25. The location is 4 miles north and 1 east of Marion.
Mrs. Earl Hett entertained with a chicken dinner June 8 in honor of Patsy’s birthday. Guests invited were Joyce Keazer, Dorothy Adams, Norma Sly, Donna Miesse, Nora Zeller, Virginia Wright and June Avery.
The 131st Council of the Knights of Columbus in the state of Kansas was established in Pilsen in ceremonies conducted June 10. The charter class included Father Joseph Goracy, Clement Klenda, Richard Klenda, John Tajchman, Vernon Srajer, Eugene Vinduska, Paul Vinduska, Joseph Jirak, Robert Navrat, Theodore Svoboda, George Svitak, Vladimir Urbanek, Gerald Svoboda, Harry L. Klenda, and Leo Meysing.
