As part of the regular organization of the new city commission on Monday, city officers re-hired the following: Edwin Westerhaus, city attorney; Lonnie Tidwell, city treasurer; Keith Kelsey, city clerk; Jay Hargett, city police judge; Fred Knackstedt, city fire marshal; Lawrence Burnett, city marshal; and Clarence Baxter, superintendent of utilities.
Marion County Rural Life Association will present a home talent show, “Aunt Silly,” Thursday and Friday in the city building auditorium. Cast members are Jean Cleland, Sandra Thiel, Willard Conyers, Nora Zeller, Ernie Holmes Jr., Harry Haas, Mrs. Bud McLinden, Max Dunn, Pauline Best, and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Powell.
Showing at the Kaw Theatre this week are the following movies: “Sword in the Desert” starring Dana Andrews and Marta Toren; Charles Starrett and Smiley Burnette in “Trail to Laredo”; Gloria Jean in “An Old Fashioned Girl”; “Ambush” with Robert Taylor, Arlene Dahl, and John Hodiak; Irving Berlin’s “Holiday Inn” starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire; and “The Lady Eve” with Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda.
Herbert Meier has purchased a privately owned shoe repair shop at the Fort Riley army base and will take over the business Friday or Saturday.
