Former Marion County family, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dunn of Yakima, Washington, last week were declared national winners in the $50,000 “Farm-In-A-Day” contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. On May 29, the Dunns will receive the complete 80-acre irrigated farm, home, buildings, fixtures, tractors, implements, chickens, in an inspiring one-day house-raising ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Giles are the parents of a daughter, Jeanette Marie, born April 16 at the Marion Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Scharenberg are the parents of a son, unnamed at press time, also born April 16 at Marion Hospital.
The troublesome, badly deteriorated principal water main that runs the length of Main Street will be replaced with a new one very soon before the resurfacing of the street by the State Highway Department.
A number of Marion’s young people, who are attending college, were home for the Easter holiday including Patricia Harris, Donna Hobein, Janice Meisner, and Max Merrill, University of Kansas; Betty Williams, Mary Heath, and Mahlon Wheeler, Kansas State College; Loyette Hollar and Donna Christensen, Wichita University; Naomi McIntosh and Charles Muse, Southwestern College; and Maurice Hollar and Don Ecker, Emporia State.
Members of the Case and Son Insurance Agency here and their families are being honored Thursday evening with a dinner at Kingfisher’s Inn. The occasion is the 70th anniversary of the firm’s representation in this area for the Royal Insurance Company. The party is being hosted by Royal Insurance Company.
