The popularity of the hot lunch program in Marion schools seems to be a growing thing. Over 300 students are regular patrons, which is 50 more than at the start of the season last year.

Mrs. John Spachek entertained a number of boys Sept. 9 in celebration of her son Bob’s birthday. The boys enjoyed a wiener roast and watermelon feed and were taken to the show at Herington. Those present were Ronnie Swanson Jimmie Svoboda, Lee Kaiser, Larry Harte, Paul Atkinson, Dennis Miller, and Wayne Swartz.

The probable starting lineup for the opening football game with Moundridge Friday will be Eldon Cook, Harold Byram, David Wheeler, Harold Shields, Don Kline, Sam Jewett, John Williams, Dwight Fruechting, Roger Richmond, Ronnie Hiebert, and Jerry Brose, quarterback.

A circus is coming to Marion, one day only, afternoon and evening, on Tuesday, Sept. 30. It will be held on the grounds south of the Santa Fe station on South Third Street.

Mike Holub, four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Holub, of the Pilsen community, is a polio patient at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. Latest report was that he was making satisfactory recovery.

Many fields are ready for wheat sowing. However, moisture is badly needed. Sowing will be a gamble for the farmer if it does not rain. Some forage crops are being combined, but the average yield is poor.
