Announcement is made this week that the Kroger grocery store in Marion will close April 11. Their lease on the location in the Masonic building is expiring soon. The move is not an isolated case but one in line with a new company policy to restrict operation to larger cities.

The Easter egg hunt put on each year by the teachers at Bown-Corby School will be held Thursday. Each child will bring three eggs which the teachers will decorate and hide in the rooms, halls and recreation room. One year the eggs were hidden outside and most of them were eaten by neighborhood dogs before the hunt was held.

An interesting and unusual baptismal service was held at the Evangelical United Brethren Church Sunday morning when three sisters had their babies christened. The babies were Wayne Ray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Giesbrecht; Brenda Fay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Helmer, and Terry Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Conyers.

The “Marion County Special” to Kansas City April 7 has met with exceptionally good response. Over 1,000 pupils, teachers, and parents will make the educational trip.

Ballots are being printed for the forthcoming election. Voters will choose between the incumbent Ben Meier and Ira Newcomer for the office of mayor. The only other name on the ballot is that of Earl Kreuter for the position of finance commissioner.
