Final plans were completed this week for a new independent food market at the former Kroger location in the Masonic building at the corner of Fourth and Main. Al Heidebrecht and Dan Pankratz will be the owner/operators.

Dr. F.C. (Phog) Allen, head basketball coach at the University of Kansas, will be speaker at the annual Marion High School athletic banquet Monday evening.

Mrs. Irvin Ehrlich entertained with a wiener roast at the lake Wednesday evening in honor of her son, Robert Gene’s, birthday. Those present were Marilyn Reh, Ginger Price, Marlys Rupp, Glenda Razor, Karen Brodhead, Janice Riffel, Homer Mohn, John Tuell, Don Seibel, Harold Seibel, Leonard Smith, Don Kline, Max Hayen, Ronnie Post, Ronnie Hiebert, Tom Druse, Wayne Hett, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Mohn and Mrs. Grace Stenzel.

Marion eighth grade students saw places of interest in Topeka Tuesday. They were accompanied by their teacher, Harry James, and room mothers, Mrs. Sam Thole and Mrs. Max Blackwelder. Hugh Gardner drove the school bus and assisted in directing the children at the points of interest. Places visited included the Goodyear plant, Gage Park, where they had lunch and visited the zoo, the state Capitol, and the Historical Society building. Gov. Arn was out-of-town but they met other state officials.
