Frank Noel, Associated Press photographer and recently released captive, reports that fellow prisoners of Father Emil Kapaun, Pilsen, have subscribed a total of $1,500 in memory of their beloved chaplain, who died in prison camp May 6, 1951.

Donald Larsen, young Marion County farmer, who has gone into raising and selling gladiolus bulbs as a sideline, tells us that his field of approximately 20,000 gladioli has started to bloom in earnest.

Steven Childs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Childs, celebrated his fourth birthday Aug. 13 with a party at his home. Invited guests were Elaine Rogers, Ronnie and Wayne King, Kim Olsen, Marsha Childs, Wallace Slusser, Murray Blackwelder, Connie and Maurice Allen, Larry Van Cleave, and Steven’s sister, Janice.

Winners of the Marion Athletic Association youth fishing derby received the following awards: Wayne Johnson won a pole and reel for catching the most fish in one day — nine; Greg Henry received a flashlight for catching the most in the two-week period — also nine fish; and Earl Winter, who caught the biggest fish, a 2½ pounder, received a tackle box.

Babies born at St. Luke Hospital this week include Michael Wayne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Good, born Aug. 14 and Rae Jean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Woerz, born Aug. 18.
