The Sisters of St. Luke Hospital entertained members of the hospital association Sunday evening at an anniversary dinner marking the first anniversary of the opening of the hospital. The 1,153 patients treated during the year includes the birth of 96 babies.

Locust Street is having a building boom with three fine new houses going up on that street. Mrs. W.H. Carpenter, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Meier, and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Stenzel are building new homes that are of the most modern design.

The junior high operetta, “Mississippi Melody,” which tells of adventures of Tom Sawyer, will be given Nov. 3 under the director of Mrs. Kenneth Swanson. The part of Tom Sawyer will be taken by Lane Broadstreet. Jay Pankratz will portray Huckleberry Finn, Colleen Allen will be Betty Thatcher, and the part of Aunt Polly will taken by Gaila Jost.

Engagements announced in this issue included those of Betty Ann Holub and Ralph Stroda, Lucille Spachek and John L. Britain, Isla May Hiebert and Dennis Richards, Ella G. Christner and Robert T. Kresky, and Deloris Mae Bezdek and Dwayne Stroda.

Joan and Arline Kline, Lois Schlotthauer, Dean Weichold, Raymond Koegeboehn and Edmund Wambsganss, members of the Walther Leagues of the Elmdale and Marion Lutheran churches went to Emporia Sunday to attend a league rally.
