A.R. “Pete” Schambron this week handed his resignation as city marshal to the city commissions. No formal action has been taken.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Koch, Newton, announce the engagement of their daughter, Glenda Lee, to Jack Marvin Taylor Jr, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Taylor Sr., Worth, Mo. An early spring wedding is planned.

Mrs. Rosse B. Case entertained young guests and their mothers Monday afternoon in celebration of Tamara’s third birthday. The guest list included Susan Hansen, Cathleen Costello, Beverly Elling, Beverly Hoch, Janice Wygle, Susan Cavender, Kathy Estes, Pattie Sue Plenert, Jill Kline, Helen Jackson, Jeanette McDaris and Tamara’s grandmother, Mrs. Ella Socolofsky.

Agnes L. Price was named assistant cashier of the Farmers and Drovers National Bank at a board of directors meeting held last week.

Top award for 1953 of the Kansas Author’s Club contest in the light verse class has been won by Inez Ray, Marion. Mrs. Ray’s light verse titled “Autumn” won first place in its class.

Schools and industries were closed this week due to a gas compressor breakdown at Abilene coupled with excessive demand due to the sub-zero cold wave.
