Announcement was made this week by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation chief Lou Richter, that James Kline, Marion County undersheriff and former sheriff, has been named as a new KBI special agent, effective March 1.

Pictured on the front page are Bob Reinke, Bill Duvall, H.W. Sly and Mrs. W.J. Hassinger as they collected “toll” from Mrs. George Helmer when she approached the polio toll bridge across Mud Creek on Marion’s Main Street last Saturday. The idea for the bridge toll was both clever and original, and netted the March of Dimes $300.

Jim Garrison, son of Dr. and Mrs. P.J. Garrison, and three other GIs were recent victims of a hold-up pair at a PX store in Pusan, Korea, where Jim has been working for almost two years. The gunmen took two watches and $70 from the men and a quantity of jade jewelry from the store.

Mrs. Ferd Winter asked a number of girls in Sunday afternoon in celebration of Marjorie’s birthday. The guests were Sue Summervill, Carol Conyers, Joyce Remmers, Anita and Deana Gleason, Karen Shull, Karen Thole, Beverly Bredemeier, Coleen Allen, Lucinda Hauser, Bess Haizlip, Mary Schmidt, Ethel Brunner, Janice Weber, Jan Rathert, Diana Vinduska, Dorothy Hedrick and Lou Wheeler.

Betty Sellers, Florence, will represent Marion County in the state cherry pie contest next Tuesday.
