Marion property owners should start a planned tree replacement project. Its streets have so long been tree-shaded that we take it for granted they will always be that way. But, an elm tree disease, moving west from the East, is killing thousands of old elms and there is no known way to combat it. A recent quick trip around Marion disclosed well up toward 100 dead trees in parkings alone.

First prize in this week’s Cash Days drawing was claimed by Mrs. Clyde Dunn of Marion, who was present when her name was drawn for $205, largest prize given so far in the series. Mrs. Mary Ollenberger, Tampa, claimed the second prize of $15. Chris Christensen, Marion, received $5.

Gerry Hamm, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Hamm, had the misfortune to fall from his bicycle Tuesday evening, breaking his arm just above the wrist. He was taken to St. Luke Hospital where the arm was set.

Mr. and Mrs. John Brose are the happy parents of a baby girl born Tuesday, June 29 at St. Luke Hospital. They have named the baby Laurie Elizabeth.

Mrs. Richard Kell entertained members of her daughter Barbara’s Brownie Troop Monday afternoon in honor of her eighth birthday. Guests included Judy Broadstreet, Charlotte Poppe, Connie Warneke, Cheryl Tidwell, Pamela Domke, Janet Hoffman, Karen Keazer, Donna Helmer, and Peggy Harris.
