The rural school graduation exercises will be held at 8 p.m. May 20 in the Marion City Auditorium, according to word from C.C. Rice, county superintendent. Seventy-three eighth graders will receive their diplomas.
Capt. John R. Wheeler, Marion, Fort Carson’s equestrian champion, will leave May 27 for reassignment to Frankfurt, Germany. Captain Wheeler was a member of the U.S. team in the 1955 Pan American games and has been a top choice for the 1956 Olympics.
David Montgomery and Marion Summervill have been selected to attend Boys’ State at Wichita this summer. Chosen to attend Girls’ State at Lawrence are Roma Collett and Jeanette Russell. All four students are juniors at Marion High School.
Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Ecker were surprised to see their son, Airman Don Ecker, while watching Edward R. Murrow’s television show last week as he interviewed the 3917th Air Squadron stationed in England. Don is a motor mechanic with the squadron.
Recipes in a section of Sunday’s Wichita Eagle included several from Marion County women. Among the first place winners were Mrs. Clarence Bentz of Durham, who submitted her recipe for kolaches, and Mrs. Max Robertson of Marion, whose winning recipe was for glazed peach pie.
