The large drain tile that carries run-off water from the ravine north of Main Street at the Skelly station site, south through the park and to the old river bed, is being taken up this week near the former park spring for re-laying. The tile, put in several years ago, was apparently not laid to a drain grade and has been filling with mud near the spring site.
The entire Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Posse, 75 strong, will be guests of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Ferrell and son, Bill, this weekend on their ranch northeast of Marion. The Ferrells invite all their friends from Marion, Marion County, Chase County, and surrounding territory to drop in Sunday to see the colorful posse.
Cub Scout Den 6 held a wiener roast in the city park Thursday evening as a farewell for Dickie Maggard, who is moving to make his home in California. Boys attending were Tommy Tucker, Chris Hauser, George and Max Jackson, Darold and David Longhofer, Bobbie Hoch, Ronnie and Wayne King, Dickie Maggard, Den Chief Tuck Tucker and Assistant Den Chief Dick Morse. Also present were Den Mothers Mrs. William Tucker and Mrs. E.D. Longhofer.
John Minear, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Minear, and Warren Gardner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Gardner, have been in attendance this week at the annual Boys State being held this year at West High School in Wichita.
