Patrons of the newly formed Joint Rural High School District 11, most of them living in northeast Marion County, will vote December 21 on a $530,000 bond issue to build and equip a new high school building. The new district combines the territories of Lincolnville, Lost Springs, Ramona, and Burdick and extends into Dickinson, Morris and Chase counties.
Saundra’s Bakery in Marion will close its doors this coming Monday, and will not reopen after the holidays. Owners state they are closing the Marion shop due to health conditions.
W.M. (Bud) Pierce, Marion service station operator, was elected president of the Marion Chamber of Commerce at the regular December meeting.
Margaret Sellers, Florence, a member of the Jayhawk 4-H Club, was picked as winner of the 1957 cherry pie-baking contest. Margaret also was the 1956 winner and runner-up at the state contest in ’56. She will represent Marion County again in this year’s state contest to be held Jan. 5 in Wichita.
The eighth grade basketball team remains undefeated and rolled past Council Grove 55-33 this week. John Christensen was leading scorer with 22 points. Gerald Kelsey followed with 18. The seventh grade also won their game with Don Druse high scorer with 12.
