Two cases of polio were reported in Marion County the past week. Leonard John Bezdek Jr., 5, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bezdek, Tampa, was taken to Wichita Saturday. Warren Vajnar, 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vajnar, also of Tampa, was taken to Wichita Sunday. Both as said to be getting along satisfactorily.
An enrollment of 493 students was recorded in the Marion school system on the first day of classes. This exceeds last year’s enrollment figure by 10 pupils.
Grand prize winners in the Child Portrait Contest sponsored by Broadstreet’s Moderne Studio are Jeanne Elizabeth Phillips, 8 months, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Phillips, Wichita; Kenneth L. White, 3, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth T. White, Lincolnville; and Georgie Ann Helmer, 4, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Helmer.
The Most Rev. Mark K. Carroll dedicated the newly remodeled Pilsen school Sept. 4. After the dedication ceremony, the Rev. Carroll held a service at the church followed by supper in the basement, a band concert on the lawn and an evening dance in the parish hall.
Marion County’s new home demonstration agent, Jane Foster, arrived in Marion this week and took over her new duties Sept. 1.
