Graduation exercises for eighth grade students from Marion County’s rural elementary schools will be May 3 at Marion City Building. The graduating class is very small; only 11 students will be participating. This is because of continuing consolidation of rural districts with city districts.

Selected by the American Legion Auxiliary to attend Sunflower Girls State this year are Jean Morse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Morse, and Mary Melton, daughter of Dr. and Mr. Ralph Melton. Lowell Ensey, son of Dr. and Mrs. T.C. Ensey, and Keith Just, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Just, will attend Sunflower Boys State.

Dues for Marion Country Club will remain $20 again this coming year as a result of a vote taken at the annual membership meeting last week.

Mary and Connie Robertson enjoyed a birthday party April 20 given by their mother at the Aulne schoolhouse. Those present were Louise and Alice Hett, Sue Woerz, Vincent and Blair Tharp, Eddie Hett, James and William Darrow, Marilee and David McGinness, Stanley and Melvin Hett, Steven Everett, Sally Friesen, Rae Jean Woerz, Marshall Richter, Kathy Reiswig, Marilyn Leppke, Sandra and Jroy Richter, and Beverly and Sheryl Voth of Newton.

The medley relay team of Marion High School received medals for taking second place in the Class A division of the Emporia State Relays. Team members are Max Jackson, Gary Hammer, Don Druse, and Larry Maltbie. The mile relay team also received second place medals. Members of that team are Gary Hammer, Ron Kelsey, Don Druse, and Steve Krispense.
