APRIL 26, 1962

Barbara Musgrave, 14-year-old daughter of Superintendent and Mrs. Robert Musgrave, represented Marion County at the state spelling bee Saturday in Topeka. She placed fourth out of 93 entrants.

Pamela Griffith will be the reigning queen of the annual May Fete to be presented May 4 by Bown-Corby School. Raymond Carr will be her escort. Ladies-in-waiting and their escorts will be Debbie Vogel, Glen Hett, Teresa Turk, Robert Cook, Paula Mayginnes, Randy Perkins, Jane Lentz, Dennis Helmer, Betty Linn, Douglas Keazer, Vickie Blomquist, and Terry Holt. The part of the dream fairy will be taken by Christina Vogt.

Announcement is made this week that Roger W. “Bud” Hannaford has accepted a position with Hannaford Abstract of Marion and will become active in the business after July 1 of this year. For the past several years, Bud has been on the faculty of the El Dorado school system.

Marion Elementary eighth graders — 58 of them — went to Abilene by bus and cars Tuesday to witness a parade and ceremonies marking the opening of the Eisenhower Library. The students saw the former president and other dignitaries, listened to short talks, and several toured the Eisenhower Museum.

Marion High School senior Steve Krispense received a State Farmer degree at an FFA convention on the Kansas State University campus at Manhattan. Marion FFA members Don Stenzel and Gary Hamm were official delegates to the convention.
