The first concrete step in the construction of Marion Reservoir on the Cottonwood River northwest of the city was taken this week when county commissioners approved an Army Engineer project for relocation of a short portion of the Strassburg road.

The northeast tip of the dam will bisect the Strassburg road. Relocation will curve the Strassburg road to the east and up onto the dam crest at its easternmost point.

The City of Marion sold $235,000 in bonds Friday night to Fourth National Bank and Trust Co. of Wichita. They are for a new water treatment plant being constructed here.

Large crowds of highly complimentary visitors have been going through the fine new Duckwall’s Variety Store since its grand opening last Friday and Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lawrence and Mr. and Mrs. Edson Childs were hosts to a party in the city building basement Aug. 14 honoring the 14th birthdays of their daughters, Marian and Marsha. The evening was spent playing games and dancing.

The annual Hett reunion held at Marion Water Works Park drew 100 relatives and two visitors. First cousins in the group included Conrad, John August, Orville, Oscar, Gertrude, Louise, Irene, and Frieda Hett and Mrs. Edna Willliams.
