Margene Savage of Florence is the 1963 Marion County Fair queen. A junior at Kansas State University, she was crowned Thursday evening by Marilyn Belton of Lost Springs, last year’s queen.
Lucille Britain has been appointed acting city clerk. She will replace Paul Morse, who has resigned. Mrs. Britain has been assistant clerk for three years.
One of the biggest fish to be taken on rod and reel from the Marion County Lake was landed Monday morning by Irvin Gerstenkorn. It was a powerful 22-pound flathead. According to lake superintendent John Waner, only two larger fish, each weighing 23½ pounds, have been taken from the lake.
Thousands of haircuts and shaves later, at almost 85 years of age, Al Holder is still going strong and hard at it each day at his barbershop in Marion. A full 70 years of barbering in the same town is a record that will be long in falling.
