Land buyers and engineers for the Corps of Engineers were in Marion County this week making initial contacts and looking toward purchase of land for the start of construction of Marion Reservoir.

For the past year and more, a group of Marion women have been quietly going about the monumental task of completely renovating, renewing, and modernizing the books, shelves, and atmosphere of Marion City Library — an outstanding example of valuable public service. These women are Audrey Carpenter, Ruth Caselman, Mary Longhofer, Dorothy Magee, Phyllis Melton, Marie Morse, Dora Phillips, and Billie Slusser.

The following girls helped Linda Bernhardt celebrate her birthday Tuesday: Cindy and Janet Druse, Luann Redfearn, and Marsha and Carol Steinel.

Coach Pete Keenan’s walloping Warriors won their way to the championship of an Inman invitational basketball tournament over the weekend.

In the championship contest, Marion won over Halstead, 57-53. Max Jackson again led the scoring with 24 points, followed by Bass 12, Hamlin 10, George Jackson 6, Frans 4, and Hauser 1.
