An open house is planned for Sunday afternoon at the nearly completed Marion County Home for the Aged. The institution, which replaces a county home known as Cedar Rest, is located at 4th and Peabody Sts. in Peabody.
Thirteen candidates for Marion County Fair queen this year include Judy Broadstreet, Donna Hanschu, Diane Nickel, and Connie Warneke of Marion.
Marion residents called for possible jury duty during the October term of District Court include Dale Anderson, Keith Conyers, Lloyd Darrow, Robert E. Kelly, Charles Maggard, Wilbur Melcher, D.W. Montgomery, James K. Richmond, and Louis P. Vinduska.
The first day of school in Marion will be Sept. 1. Buses will run, and lunches will be served.
The first day of grade school at Lincolnville will be Monday, Aug. 31. The school faculty includes Mary Haefner (Grades 1 and 2), Ada Mehl (3 and 4), Beth Pagenkopf (5 and 6), Ernest Coleman (7 and 8), and Abe Baerg (music).
Nationally known polka and old-time recording artist Don Peachey and his orchestra will appear Aug. 28 at Starlite Ballroom, Pilsen.
