Showers Monday and rain Tuesday and Wednesday have brought smiles to many Marion County faces, have helped late-heading milo fields and pastures, and have loosened purse strings held tight by dry, hot weather and unsettled conditions.
The winner among those competing for the title of 1965 Marion County Fair queen will be crowned on closing night, Aug. 26, by last year’s winner, Elaine Klassen, Hillsboro. Entrants include Rebecca Berry of Marion; Gloria Lewerenz and Carol Lehmann, Lincolnville; Jan Hostetler and Faith Kleinsasser. Hillsboro; Linda Strome, Burdick; Patricia Edmonds, Peabody; and Margie Goertzen, Henderson, Nebraska.
Steve Krispense, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Krispense and a member of the Marion FFA chapter, is one of seven Future Farmers of America from Kansas named this week to receive the organization’s highest degree, American Farmer, at the FFA convention Oct. 13 to 25 in Kansas City.
School enrollment will be Thursday and Friday. The faculty is led by new superintendent J.M. Applegate. Principals are Maude Thompson at Bown-Corby, D. Eugene Enos at Marion Elementary, and Jim Weinmann at Marion High Sch
