A record crowd is expected Thursday for the annual Farm-City Banquet and program at Marion City Building. General chairmen of the affair, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, are Earl Wood and Roger “Bud” Hannaford.
Brothers Bill and Larry Burkholder will lease Bud’s Conoco Service from W.M. “Bud” Pierce effective Nov. 1. The station has been owned and operated by Pierce for nearly 20 years and has expanded into one of the largest Conoco and B.F. Goodrich outlets in Central Kansas.
Dairy Queen will close for the season after Sunday, according to owners Mr. and Mrs. Will Helmer. They say it will open again next spring, as usual.
“A” team Warrior cheerleaders chosen this week are Toni McElwain, Judy Pankratz, Pat Warneke, Susan Yeagley, and Roxy Zerger. “B” team leaders are Michelle Hett, Helen Jackson, Susan Lentz, and Kathy Perkins.
Mildred Christensen and Violet Richmond were honored Oct. 21 at the annual St. Luke Hospital awards dinner. Mrs. Christensen received a 10-year award, and Mrs. Richmond a five-year award.
A small storage building at the back of Lillie Schlotthauer’s home on N. Freeborn St. burned down Tuesday noon. The building had been used as a playhouse for children of the neighborhood. Some of them admit playing inside the house with matches and accidentally starting the fire.
