Two Nationalist Chinese girls, Grace Chen and Rena Su, had their first snowball fight Monday in front of the Record office with their Marion County friends and hosts, Edith and Norma Frick. “There’s no snow in Taiwan, and we love it,” one of the girls said as they heaved snowballs at each other.
An award was presented Wednesday to Marion florist Rendel Newsom for having donated eight gallons of blood to the Red Cross. Also recognized for donations were Erna Mae Yeagley, four gallons, and Noel Dannenfelser and Ed Sandwell, three gallons each.
An interesting discussion about new math was presented by Bown-Corby staff at a Parent-Teacher Association meeting Jan. 24. Staff discussing the program included Martha Barr, Wilma Ewert, Marilyn Gerbrant, Helen Klassen, Ruth Montgomery, and Alma Schlotthauer.
Very cold weather has been hanging around for the major part of the week. Snow commenced falling early Monday morning and continued throughout the day and night. Farmers are hoping the zero temperatures will kill green bugs that are infesting wheat fields.
Katherine Swan of Marion received $100 in this week’s Cash Days drawing. Those not present when their names were drawn were Ardella Gray, Peabody, who missed $15; Mrs. Ivan L. Winter, Marion, who missed $15; Kenneth Nienstedt, Marion, $40; and Frank Layton, Marion, $5.
Lynn Vajnar, 6-foot-2 sophomore, is the featured Marion Warrior basketball player this week. Vajnar is a valuable player not only on the B team but also as a substitute for the A team.
