Marion County will have a new full-time 4-H agent starting Aug. 1. He is Ralph Gilmore, a 1961 graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in agricultural economics.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Alder of Florence were victims of a burglary Saturday night or early Sunday. Several valuable antique swords and guns were taken from cases and display racks at their home.

Boy Scout Troop 102, under the leadership of scoutmaster Bill Finke has been named “Honor Troop” at Camp Ta-Wa-Ko-Ni, near Augusta, for the second year in a row.

Scouts are Lance Alexander, Steve Fillipp, Billy Finke, Terry Frans, Chuck McElwain, Randy Perkins, Mark Rathert, Ricky Schwendiman, Danny Steinel, Mike Steinel, and Dick Wiebe.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred A. Swann will have an open house July 27 at their new store, Swann’s Drugs, at 4th and Main Sts.

Births announced in this issue included Darrell Dean, born July 15 at St. Luke Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Herbel of rural Marion, and Scott Alan, born July 19 at St. Luke to Mr. and Mrs. Marion Kelsey of Newton.

Four Marion athletes, Jim Richmond, Doug Kelsey, Charles Pankratz, and Gary Melcher, were entered in an “all comers” track meet Saturday at Wichita.

Melcher was one of the stars of the meet. He set records in his three events — shot put, javelin, and discus.
