Marion voters will go to the polls May 3 to register their wishes on two special questions: (1) whether or not packaged liquor is to be sold in the city, and (2) shall we issue bonds to build a modern, sanitary swimming pool?

Roy Powell, formerly of Topeka, is the new manager of the Kaw Theatres. He replaces Paul Ellsberry, who has gone to a drive-in theater near Kansas City.

A six-team hardball league starts play May 4 and 5. The Cottonwood Valley Baseball League is comprised of teams from Emporia, Newton, Canton, Hillsboro, Peabody, and Marion. Jess Coons is manager of the Marion team.

Marion County this week joined the growing list of Kansas counties that have equipped their police departments with two-way radios. The Marion call letters are KAA-288.

Work is progressing this week on building a foundation retaining wall on the Main Street hillside property of Dr. C.R. Magee. Plans have been in the making to build a modern building to house his office on this attractive location across from the park.

Miss Phyliss Hagel has chosen the play and cast for the senior class play, “Spring Fever.” Bob Reinke is cast as the leading man. Other cast members are Pat Brose, Luetta Bartel, Don Fruechting, Don Dody, Wayne Klein, Mary Heath, June Schlotz, Donna Hobein, and Joan Bell.
