The engine and one car from the Santa Fe local #87 were derailed in Marion yesterday about 11 a.m. just back of the Cities Service Oil Co. station. Traffic on the railroad was held up for approximately seven hours with the Doodlebug continuing west about 6 p.m. after the road was cleared.
Community Guild of Marion will sponsor furnishings of an apartment in the new 40-unit project being built in Wichita by the Institute of Logopedics. This is a school for the rehabilitation of those with speech defects, the deaf and spastics.
Three carloads of cattle from Texas were unloaded at Oursler Saturday by Bud McLinden and will be pastured in this area where grass is abundant.
Patsy Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Harris, is qualified and registered by the National Red Cross to teach intermediate and advance swimming and life saving.
Mrs. Alex Socolofsky entertained the Socolofsky-Case wedding party at dinner Saturday at Coons’ Restaurant. Places for 24 guests were marked with clever bride and bridesmaids place card nut cups. A bowl of pinks centered the table.
The Navy’s gigantic new airplane, the Constitution, which has been making a spectacular goodwill tour to various cities over the county, has a former Marion boy among its crews. Lt. Bill Fey is assigned to the huge aircraft as public relations officer.
