Marion County men between the ages of 18 and 26, except for a few listed exceptions, have been called to register for possible military service. The draft board is following the national order for registration beginning Sept. 18. Mrs. Inez Ray, who acted as assistant clerk on the draft board during World War II, has been named clerk for the present registration.

Sheriff Lloyd Davies reports that William Gayer, accused murderer of Herbert Kindred, has indicated, on several occasions, a desire or willingness to plead guilty to the murder providing he could be assured of avoiding the death penalty. In a first degree murder conviction in Kansas, the penalty may be either death by hanging or life imprisonment.

Ray Vinduska, popular young veteran and post office employee, recently was elected commander of James William Miesse Post 22 of the American Legion.

Miss Vivian Pope, Durham, has chosen Sept. 10, 1948, as the date of her marriage to Mr. Norman Mueller, Tampa. The wedding will take place at 7:30 in the evening at the First Baptist Church, Durham.

Miss Vivian Unruh was honored with a going-away party Wednesday, Aug. 11, in the Aulne church basement. Miss Unruh will leave soon for her work in a home mission school for negro girls in North Carolina. She will teach music and voice.
