This issue of the newspaper has a number of old time photographs. They include pictures of construction of the county courthouse in 1907, the old jail and old courthouse, the park spring, the graduating class of 1894, the 1906 high school orchestra, the “Town Cut-ups” of the early 20s, and the ice gorge at the Cottonwood Valley Mill in 1910.
Identity of the “Town Cut-ups” was provided by W.C. Loveless, surviving member of the group. Other members were Ed Hannaford, George Trenner, Charles McBurney, Rosse Case, and Alex Wilson.
Last week, without any fanfare, the Record began its 79th year of publication, permitting it to stand up with the other old timers to be counted this Old Settlers’ Day.
A number of Marion parents of young girls, ages 4 to 12, are making plans to start a ballet and acrobatic dancing class in the near future. Mrs. Charles Davis, wife of the new Marion High School music director, will teach the girls in an hour class once a week.
The fall season is beginning to show itself with a bit of coolness in the mornings. Frost may soon arrive. The corn fields look very promising and a very good crop is expected. The rich bottom lands will produce a bumper crop.
