A new building with all new modern equipment has been added to the Marion business district. It is the Merrill cleaning plant on South Second Street. Mr. and Mrs. Merrill have operated the E&M laundry for several years, having moved there in July 1936. The laundry and cleaning establishment are now two separate businesses in two separate buildings, with the laundry now being owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. John Suffield.
The Marion High School band is desperately in need of new uniforms, and before they can be purchased, there must be $1,400 raised to cover the difference between the present funds on hand and the expected cost of the project.
Jim Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hett of near Aulne, took first place in the junior sheep-shearing contest at the State Fair in Hutchinson last week. He was matched against stiff competition from over the state. Jim is a member of the Sunshine 4-H Club.
Marion people are interested in the announcement that Randolph Carpenter, Democratic nominee for governor, will officially open his campaign in Emporia Oct. 4.
After school on September 21, a number of youngsters helped Jerry Dieter celebrate his birthday. Miss Shirley Collett and Mrs. Bryan Bell assisted Mrs. Art Dieter with games and refreshments. The following were invited: Gail and Jean Dody, LaVern and Lavina Hoffman, Glenn and Dean Weichold, Vera and Joyce Remmers, William and Sandra Hammer, Larry Dieter, Phyllis Thies, LeNore Wheeler, Jeannette Russell, Carol Krispense, Mayme Swehla, Dean Kelsey and Marion Summervill.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Good are the parents of a son, Robert Bruce, who arrived on his mother’s birthday, September 25, at the Marion hospital.
