The local Veterans of Foreign Wars post will furnish a color guard and firing squad Sunday for the funeral of Pvt. Robert W. “Bob” Haas, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Haas. Pvt. Haas was killed Oct. 4, 1944, on Anguar Island in the Palau group, in what is described as the fiercest battle of the entire Pacific campaign.
Citizens of Marion County will have the rare privilege of hearing Homer Rodeheaver sing, play his famous trombone and speak at the city building on Oct. 19. Mr. Rodeheaver is widely known as a singing evangelist, having been associated with the late Billy Sunday for many years in evangelistic meetings.
A ballet, tap and acrobatic dancing class was organized recently by Mrs. Charles Davis. Students enrolled are Lucinda Hauser, Diana Irwin, Jeanette Johnson, Charlotte Langley, Patty Longhofer, Karen Schroeder, Karen Shull, Patsy Slusser, Lou Esther Wheeler, Jeanette Wheelock, Karen Becker, Margie Bernhardt, Karen Brodhead, Judy Coons, Ann Davies, Connie Sue Long, Carol Miser, Rita Miser, Kay Navrat, Carol Perriman, Lois Strong, LeNore Wheeler, and Judy Thatch.
The reception room and studio at the Moderne Studio has recently been redecorated in a most attractive and modernistic design.
At the request of County Attorney Charles Ward, the county commissioners have secured the services of Braden Johnston, Marion attorney, to assist the state in the forthcoming murder trial of William E. Gayer.
There will be a Democratic meeting Oct. 20 at the Starlite Dance Hall in Pilsen. Immediately following the speeches there will be a free dance with the Blue Aces Orchestra led by Henry Steiner.
