Fruit trees of all kinds are bearing their finest crop in at least the last ten years according to Peter Stika of near Lincolnville.

Barbara Ann Spachek is shown reaching for an extra tempting peach from her grandfather’s tree. She and her sister Donna Marie, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. John Spachek, love to visit the orchard and help gather the fruit.

Brrr! The mercury dropped to a shivering 47 degrees Thursday morning for an unseasonal cold snap. The last few days of cool weather have been a welcome change for most people and bring hope of an early frost to hay fever sufferers.

The first Marion County soapbox derby held Sunday afternoon, proved a highly successful event.

First and second places in Class A, 12-15 years, went to Ronnie Post and Harold Shields and Class B, 11 and under, to Jerry Seifert and Dick Hoch.

Fastest time was made by LaVerne Hoffman, in his third race, with a time of 21 seconds.
