A major business improvement is being made at Bud’s Conoco Service on the corner of Main and Walnut Sts.
The old station is being replaced with a new, modern building that will house complete washing and lubrication departments as well as large display windows, general office, and customary service station facilities.

An unusually beautiful and timely Easter decoration is the large lighted cross on top of the home of Misses Sadie and Ruth Keller. At Christmas time they had a large lighted star in the same place.

The Keller house is especially suited for such a decoration with its interesting tower reminiscent of a once very popular style of architecture. At the time it was built and the surrounding trees were smaller, this tower commanded an impressive view across the town and the Cottonwood valley.

Pictured on the front page are Hillsboro firemen as they attempt to extinguish the fire that destroyed Hillsboro’s Avon Theatre early Tuesday morning. The projection equipment, the entire second floor, and much of the roof were destroyed.

Edward J. Costello, local attorney, was elected commander of the Marion County Veterans of Foreign Wars post at Marion in the annual election meeting held Thursday evening.

Major highway construction at Florence is the largest and most costly single piece of roadwork done in Marion County in many years. It includes an overpass, large bridge, and half cloverleaf junction along with a good share of new highway on US-50S to bypass the town of Florence.

Members of the senior class and A.J. Shull and Miss Pat Grinnell, American history teachers, were in Topeka Wednesday. They attended a session of the state legislature, toured the Capitol building, and visited the state historical museum.
