The March lion blustered onto the stage Saturday with a combination of sleet, rain, and snow, added more Sunday, and topped it off Monday with the heaviest and most widespread snowfall of 10 years.

The 10-inch snowfall is fine for crops, but drifts are the worst in years, and many roads are blocked.

John H. Riddle and Randolph Carpenter represented Marion last week when a delegation from many Kansas cities and organizations appeared in Washington before a House sub-committee on appropriations to appeal for funds to start construction on a series of large dams for flood control.

S.W. Gound, owner of the local Ford car and truck agency, will open Saturday in his big, completely new building on Main St., location of the former W.J. Haas Furniture and Buck’s Ready-to-Wear stores.

Henry F. Loveless, Antelope, this week announces his candidacy on the Republican ticket for the office of sheriff of Marion County.

Marion city commission recently placed an order for warning blinker-light traffic signals. Tentative plans are to install them at the first intersections on the east and west sides of town at Coble and Main streets and on W. Santa Fe at the Pilsen corner and probably at the Main and Elm street corner just east of the bridge.

In all cases, yellow caution lights will blink east and west for the main traffic and blink red north and south for the cross traffic.
