Water from Marion’s new well, several miles to the northeast, has been receiving a full-scale test this past week.
The water is being emptied into a ravine branch of Clear Creek and has been maintained at more than 400 gallons per minute, half the normal summertime demand of the city.
A Red Cross swimming program is scheduled to start June 11 and will be handled again this year at the Hillsboro swimming pool. Marion school buses will transport participants to and from Hillsboro. Rhonda Rath of Florence will be head lifeguard this year.
Marion Merchants baseball club met a strong nine from Potwin but by virtue of fine pitching and expert fielding won the game 5-4 Sunday. Kenny Conyers holds the team’s highest batting average at .574, followed by Warren Woerz at .466, and Billy McKibbin at .461.
Governor Fred Hall will make a stop Tuesday in Marion. Plans are being made for a luncheon in the city building basement for all residents who would like to meet and eat with the governor.
