Next year’s division of grades between the Marion’s two elementary school buildings was determined Monday evening at a board of education meeting. First, second, third, and fourth grades will go to Bown Corby School and the sixth, seventh and eighth will attend Hill School.

Daniel Charles Tajchman is one of those who will be young in birthdays all his life. He arrived Sunday, Feb. 29, at the Marion Hospital, the seventh child of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tajchman of the Youngtown neighborhood.

Twenty-four young GIs this week enrolled for a year’s course in vocational agriculture made available by the Veterans Administration. Classes will be Thursday afternoons at the Hill School. Monday will be shop night.

Ethel Gardner Dale, a member of the firm Hannaford and Gardner, will be in charge of arranging entertainment for the Spring Merchandising and Tractor Show. For a period of seven years, she was a professional director of amateur theatricals in Fairbanks, Alaska.

It came to light this week that a boy called Oscar in Marion isn’t Oscar at all. It seems that he was born about the time of year that awards were being made in Hollywood. The mother of the 12-pound boy declared if she didn’t deserve an Oscar for her production, she didn’t know who did — and the name stuck.
