Marion’s Main St. received a thorough cleaning down its full length last week. A rotary street sweeper belonging to the state swept all the accumulated dirt into gutters, from which it was picked up and disposed of. The improvement was definite and commendable.

Appointments for key city employees were made at this week’s meeting of city commissioners. Those named included A.W. Schoneman, city clerk; David W. Wheeler, city attorney; Lawrence Burnett, city marshal; and Walter Siebert, city treasurer.

Land filling an old river channel on the east side of Central Park has been planted to grass. Playground equipment for smaller children has been ordered. One piece includes four swings, a slide, and a teeter-totter.

Highlights of Marion’s high school baseball game Friday night against Peabody night include a home run by Merrill; clutch pitching by Hayen; a smooth double play by Powell, Merrill, and Conyers, and efficient umpiring by “Creamy” Schwemmer.

The band Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys stopped for breakfast Wednesday in Marion en route to an engagement in Salina. Ben Meier reports they complimented him on the food, the reasonable prices, the beautiful park, and the attractive town.
