The annual stag party of the Marion Chamber of Commerce is being planned for 6:30 p.m. July 13 at the country club.

Two Fairbanks-Morse engines and generators at the light plant have a new “big brother” helping feed power to Marion. The new 1,200-horsepower Fairbanks-Morse engine and generator are now at work to provide this city with power.

Marion County’s Red Cross swimming program with begin Monday with 87 youngsters registered to participate. Marion youngsters will use the Herington pool and will meet at 9 a.m. in the city park on the days in which they swim. Transportation will be in the high school bus.

Ernie Holmes, owner of the local Gamble’s store, has purchased the entire hardware and equipment stock of Farmer’s Hardware, owned by Frank Hollar. Hollar will continue to operate a poultry and cream buying station in the south part of the combined store at 4th and Main Sts.

A number of young people who have been going to school are employed at various places of business throughout the summer months. Donna Hobein and Richard Rhode are helping at the J.C. Penney Co. store; Jean Muse is at the pharmacy; Alex Case Jr. and Rosse Case at Case and Son; Jack Beaston at the state highway barn, and many others we have not learned of.
