Marion citizens will go to the polls May 3 to register their wishes on two special questions: whether packaged liquor is to be sold in the city and whether bonds should be issued to build a modern, sanitary swimming pool.
Jess Coons, Marion’s hardball team manager, has issued a call for the team’s opening workout at 2 p.m. April 10. Other teams in the six-team Cottonwood Valley Baseball League are Peabody, Canton, Emporia, Newton, and Hillsboro.
Roy Powell, a native of Ohio, is the new manager of Kaw Theater. He replaces Paul Ellsberry, who has gone to a drive-in theater near Kansas City.
Work is progressing this week on building a foundation retaining wall on the Main St. hillside property of physician C.R. Magee. Plans have been in the making to build a modern building to house his office on this attractive location across from the park.
Mrs. Fred Meisinger, correspondent from the South of Town area, says that spring is just around the corner. A sure sign is that 11 carloads of cattle were unloaded Sunday at Oursler. The trainmen say that more cattle are handled through Oursler than any other station on this Santa Fe branch.
