Construction of 10 or more low-cost homes is being planned for Marion by Riddle Quarries. The homes will be built on the east side of S. Cedar St. between Maple and Melvin Sts. They will overlook the Cottonwood valley.

One of several survey teams sent out by the Army engineers to examine possible sites for the proposed U.S. Air Force Academy visited then revisited Marion during the past week. They picked as the most desirable spot an area south and east of Marion that includes the county lake. Whether it will be selected is a long, long shot.

Members of the hospital’s board of directors and trustees voted Sunday to approve purchase of land between Roosevelt and Freeborn Sts. formerly used as the high school athletic field as site for a new hospital.

Rehearsals have begun for the Civic Theatre’s one-act play, “Balcony Scene,” to be directed by Ethel Gardner Dale. Cast members include Richard Brodhead, Mrs. Ross Haney, Mrs. Paul Herpich, Keith Kelsey, Leslie Powell Sr., Jack Seaton, and Mary Louise Tibbetts.
